Description
BBA PurePond Bio-Flocculant — Natural Biological Clarifier for Cloudy & Murky Pond Water
Cloudy or murky pond water is usually caused by fine suspended particles — clay, fish waste, decomposing organic matter — that are too small for your mechanical filter to catch and too light to settle by themselves. A UV clarifier won't touch them either, because they're not biological. What's needed is something that binds those particles together into larger clumps that your filter can capture and remove.
BBA PurePond Bio-Flocculant does exactly that. It's a 20x concentrated liquid biological flocculant that uses natural microbial metabolites to aggregate fine suspended particles into larger flocs that sink or get trapped by your filtration system. Unlike a chemical flocculant, it also introduces aerobic bacteria that break down the organic portion of the settled material — sludge, ammonia, nitrites, phosphorus and odour compounds — so you're clearing the water and reducing the organic load at the same time.
The result is improved transparency and visual clarity under favourable conditions, plus long-term water quality stability rather than a short-term cosmetic fix that leaves the underlying organic problem untouched.
1L treats up to 50,000L at the standard maintenance dose. Australian made and owned, by BBA Biosolution in Sydney, NSW.
What's the difference between a biological and a chemical flocculant?
Chemical flocculants (the most common being alum and polyacrylamide-based products) use chemical reactions to clump suspended particles. They work fast but leave no lasting benefit — once the particles settle, the water quality reverts as new particles enter the water column.
BBA PurePond Bio-Flocculant uses microbial metabolites (natural sticky polymers produced by the bacteria) to bind fine particles into flocs. At the same time, the aerobic bacteria colony actively decomposes the organic matter settling at the base — reducing sludge, ammonia and nitrites as a secondary benefit. The clarifying effect is supported by ongoing biological activity rather than a one-off chemical event.
Key benefits
- Rapidly aggregates and settles fine suspended particles for fast water clarity improvement
- 20x concentrated formula — 1L treats up to 50,000L

- Eliminates ammonia, nitrites, phosphorus, organic matter and odour compounds
- Restores and maintains natural microbial balance for long-term water quality stability
- Reduces dependence on chemical treatments — no secondary chemical pollution
- Safe for all aquatic life, including at higher doses
- 100% natural — Australian made and owned
Important: UV, ozone and chemical treatment pause — 2 to 4 days
This is the most important step and it is absent from every other listing online.
BBA PurePond Bio-Flocculant contains live aerobic bacteria. UV clarifiers and ozone units kill free-floating bacteria before they can establish in your pond. Unlike some other beneficial bacteria products that only need a 24 to 48-hour UV pause, Bio-Flocculant requires a 2 to 4 day pause — the aerobic bacterial strains and microbial metabolites need more time to bind to particles and surfaces before they can withstand UV exposure.
Before dosing: turn off your UV clarifier, ozone unit and any active chemical treatment. Keep your pump and aeration running so water keeps circulating. After 2 to 4 days, the bacteria will have established and you can safely turn the UV back on.
Skipping this step will significantly reduce effectiveness and waste product.
Dosage guide
| Pond size | First-time use | Heavily polluted water |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000L | 20ml | 40–60ml |
| 2,500L | 50ml | 100–150ml |
| 5,000L | 100ml | 200–300ml |
| 10,000L | 200ml | 400–600ml |
| 25,000L | 500ml | 1–1.5L |
| 50,000L | 1L | 2–3L |
Shake well before use. Apply evenly across the pond surface. Dose rates are guidelines — individual conditions including water pollution level, pond depth, suspended material volume and water temperature will influence the amount needed. For heavily polluted water, double or triple the standard dose.
For ongoing maintenance after the initial clarification treatment, switch to BBA PurePond 4-in-1 Maintenance Bacteria to keep the ecosystem healthy — this is the transition the product label itself recommends.
Safety
Avoid eye contact — rinse immediately with water if exposed. Not for human consumption. Keep out of reach of children. Deviating from recommended dosing or treating in unstable water conditions can harm aquatic life.
Frequently asked questions
What causes cloudy or murky pond water?
Cloudy water is usually caused by fine suspended particles — clay, fine organic waste, fish waste and decomposing matter — that are too small for mechanical filtration to catch and too light to settle naturally. A UV clarifier only affects free-floating biological particles (algae), not suspended physical or organic particles. A bioflocculant is the right tool for this type of cloudiness.
How does BBA PurePond Bio-Flocculant work?
The product introduces aerobic bacteria and natural microbial metabolites that bind fine suspended particles into larger clumps called flocs. These flocs are heavy enough to settle or be caught by your mechanical filter. The bacteria also break down the organic material in settled sludge, reducing ammonia, nitrites and phosphorus at the same time.
How long do I need to turn off my UV clarifier?
2 to 4 days — longer than most beneficial bacteria products. Turn off your UV clarifier, ozone unit and any active chemical treatments before dosing. Keep your pump running. After 2 to 4 days the bacteria have established on pond surfaces and filter media where UV cannot reach them, and it is safe to turn the UV back on.
Will it clear green water from algae?
Bio-Flocculant is designed for turbidity caused by suspended non-biological particles. If your water is green from free-floating algae, a UV clarifier is the most effective solution for that specific problem. For string algae attached to surfaces, see BBA PurePond Algae Blaster.
How much do I use?
The standard first-time dose is 20ml per 1,000L. Double or triple this for heavily polluted water. See the dosage table on this page for your pond size.
What do I use after the Bio-Flocculant treatment?
Switch to BBA PurePond 4-in-1 Maintenance Bacteria for regular ongoing dosing to keep the biological balance stable — this is what the product label itself recommends as the follow-up maintenance step.
Is it safe for fish and plants?
Yes, including at higher doses, when used according to the label. It is safe for all aquatic life.
Is it made in Australia?
Yes. BBA Biosolution is based in Sydney, NSW. The product is Australian made and owned.
